An Evening of Dhrupad Music with Uday Bhawalkar
Tuesday, October 26, 2010 3:00 PM to 5:31 PM EDT
Johnson Center Cinema
Join us for an evening of Dhrupad music, an ancient form of Hindustani classical music. For centuries, Dhrupad music has been practiced at the courts of Hindu rajas, Muslim sultans and Mughal emperors. The contemplative nature of the music evokes an atmosphere of worship and peace.
The event will feature the serene and spiritual vocals of renowned musician Uday Bhawalkar. Bhawalker, a native of Ujjain, India, has performed extensively in India and abroad. He has also released numerous albums, including "Raga Shri, Raga Malkauns" (1998), "A Dhrupal Recital" (1996), "Dhrupad" (2000), and "Parampara" (2005). This event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Ali Vural Ak Center for Global Islamic Studies, the Center for Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, and Cultural Fusion.
